Composite floor deck is comprised of a ribbed profile deck with special rolled-in embossments designed to interlock with the concrete slab. This construction maximizes the efficiency of both the steel and the concrete components. Composite beam design utilizing composite floor deck and shear studs provides a tremendous cost saving opportunity through reduction in the size and cost of steel beams by as much as 30 percent.

A composite steel deck combines the tensile strength of steel with the compressive strength of concrete to improve design efficiency and reduce the material necessary to cover a given area. Additionally, composite steel decks supported by composite steel joists can span greater distances between supporting elements and have reduced live load deflection in comparison to previous construction methods.

Over the last decade the region has seen a significant rise in the use of steel decking. It’s no surprise as using steel decking has many advantages.

  • Speedy construction
  • Savings in weight
  • Easy installation compared to alternatives
  • Less concrete usage
  • Fire resistant

How is it sold?

The floor decking is sold per sheet.

Can you put composite decking directly on concrete?

Yes, you can install composite decking on concrete. ... Concrete provides a more stable surface for composite decking, compared to surfaces such as gravel or sand. Installing decking directly over dirt or grass isn't recommended.

What is the difference between composite and non-composite decking?

Unlike composite deck, selection of non-composite deck is not determined by the uniform load being supported, since in a non-composite application the deck is only used as a form for the concrete and not for positive reinforcement.
